About

Jade Chantrell is an Adelaide-born artist, engineer, and hobbyist musician. Her works embody naturalistic themes of Australian flora and fauna, with a special focus on birds and plants. Her tendency towards bold outlines whilst still retaining detail renders her work in a uniquely non-meticulous style, yet still encompassing the attitudes and character of her subject matter.

From Jade Chantrell

On sunny afternoons, you can find me at home with a cup of tea in one hand and a paintbrush in the other. Art has been both my relaxer and stimulant from as far back as I can remember. My artistic style has grown with me since my childhood.

My current focus is Australian flora and fauna, and the things one can find in the garden. Birds in particular have so much personality.

The variety of plants in my neighbourhood also gives me the opportunity to try new things with the paintbrush and to experiment with vibrant colours. My artistic tendency leans toward detail, and so I have somewhat given in to this with my first set of work, trying to keep it light, yet true to form.

I have not had the chance to undertake formal training. This is the culmination of many hours spent hobby painting, mainly with oils. This is the first time I have tried my hand at watercolour and I can’t wait to see where it takes me.

I am dreaming to endeavour into the realms of people, mythology and surreal imagery, so stay tuned.
